Is it Chromium today being THAT bad or my specific issues?įor some more info - I have a powerful laptop on Ryzen 7 (with integrated GPU only though), but slow internet because of living in underdeveloped country stuck in 90s (either ADSL or 4G, and both are horrendous). Certainly though, because so much of Safari is accelerated, Safari does tend to go easier on resources and uses less energy than Chrome.

For me, Chrome on Android suffers from frame drops but Firefox doesnt. Actually doing a spot check right now, they both use about 300MB to show Google News, with very little difference. I find Chrome faster and more responsive on desktop, but Firefox is much more performant on Android. theres not a huge difference in system ressources in use between the two, since theyre partly using the same browser engine. Brave is good but not as smooth as samsung internet but thanks anyways. It is also known as Reddit night mode, Reddit dark theme, or Reddit night. Opera is based on the Blink engine, which is based on Chromium. On Chrome (and also Edge, Brave) I tried basically every flag setting imaginable, some extensions and no extensions at all - nothing leaded to any significant improvement. However Samsung Internet is way better than Chrome. Browser itself also looks smoother without common microstutters as in Chrome. On Firefox it's still not perfect but a lot better. Videos drop frames, look out of sync everywhere etc etc. I have started to use edge for some days and now i feel that chrome was using less resources than edge.
In Chrome&co it is a laggy mess, scrolling sometimes barely works, loading times exceed 10 seconds here and there, going to fullscreen takes forever. But the most significant improvement is YouTube.
Chrome is the name given to chromium when it is electroplated over another metal. Chromium is element number 24 on the periodic table. And I could say it's a wonder how fast pages are loading, how much less errors or half-loaded pages I see. Chrome and chromium are not the same substances, although they are related to each other. I've always been a primarily Chrome user, but recently decided to try it with Firefox again.
